A Cruel, Cruel, Joke

Yesterday was National Girls and Women in Sports Day. I was listed in zero posts or threads of women you all support and enjoy who work in sports. I am deeply offended. Ok, not really. It was actually refreshing for once to not be bombarded with notifications of someone tagging you in a post with a bunch of other women for once on that day. I actually dread that day because of it. I love being appreciated, but after getting so many callouts on a single day, you get a bit tired of it. So, it was for once.

But, we’re not here to talk about whether I’m appreciated or not. I mention that it was National Girls and Women in Sports Day because Donald Trump played a cruel joke on women. He used that day to ban girls and women from sports.

I have kept silent on this newsletter as bans on trans girls from playing sports have swept the nation. Mainly, because there were no stories of trans girls getting kicked out of hockey, and I try to keep this newsletter hockey-related. But, the conservative’s genocide of trans people keeps ramping up. It’s past time I speak up. I may be a hockey commentator, but hockey is a sport. Even if there’s no hockey-specific angle here, I feel obligated to comment, because people in sports are suffering needlessly.

I could go over the science and show how trans women and girls really don’t have an actual advantage over cis women and girls. But, that doesn’t matter. It has never mattered. No one who wants trans women and girls out of sports cares about the science. If they did, they wouldn’t have been applauding an executive order that claims that we are our gender “at conception”. For those who don’t know, we all start out as female. So, legally, technically, we are all now female. But, don’t tell the reactionary freaks this. They wouldn’t and don’t care. Once again: they don’t care about science. Claiming this is about “science” is merely a dressing to make it look respectable. It’s a philosophical argument on whether trans people should be allowed to exist. Reactionaries feel entitled to ignorance and hatred. They feel entitled to never being challenged in their beliefs, having to change, or meeting someone different from them. They want to live in a world where everyone looks and thinks the same. A world with no black people, no disabled people, no queer people, and no one who isn’t a right-wing Christian. Also, no poor people. The reality is: that science is quite clear on trans people. It’s in the favor of trans people. That doesn’t matter. It’s a question of worldview and who deserves to be seen as human. Reactionaries believe that any minority in North America doesn’t deserve to be seen or treated as human. I specify “any minority in North America” because worldwide, white people are a minority. But, that doesn’t matter to them. They believe that white people are inherently superior anyway because it makes them feel good. That’s all this is about. These freaks feeling good. They feel good feeling inherently superior to other humans and are desperate for those feelings to never go away. They’re miserable. They live miserable lives and this is all they have. A false sense of superiority. Therefore, anything that threatens to take it away is dangerous and must be eliminated. That’s why they’re willing to be so cruel. This is the only thing they have. If they don’t have this false sense of being superior, there’s nothing. Then, they might have to reflect and maybe change who they are and grow as a person. That is the worst imaginable to these losers. Once again, they feel entitled to never have to change. They feel entitled to ignorance. If they lose this sense of superiority, then they don’t have the privilege of ignorance anymore. They’d be forced to get rid of it. That’s why they will do anything to protect their right to ignorance and be downright cruel to keep it.

So, I could talk about facts. I could talk about the science of being trans or quote numbers about how few trans athletes there are and how they’re not as successful as reactionaries make them out to be. None of that matters because they don’t care. Facts won’t win them over. Only forcing them to change their entire worldview will. I say “force” because they’ll never change it on their own. It will only happen if they must. I say that as someone who grew up conservative. I was raised in a Christian Nationalist family, and somewhere around 2016 became a libertarian. I remained a libertarian until 2020 when I became a liberal. In 2022 I became a Marxist. None of these changes came about willingly. They were all forced upon me. I had no choice but to change. I won’t go into all the specific details because the article would be too long. I grew up looking up to and idolizing Glenn Beck and now I run a daily communist political newsletter. The commentator I now respect the most is Sheryl Weikal, even though she is an anarchist (follow her on Bluesky and Threads).

What I’m saying: nothing I say will change their hearts and minds. They’re not open to being changed. They won’t change unless they must. The cruelty will continue until it’s not just trans women being affected, but white cis women en masse are being affected as well by the cruelty. This is all they have. This cruelty is the only thing that brings them any happiness and any sense of control in life. So banning “undesirable” women from sports on National Girls and Women in Sports Day is the only happiness they had in their lives yesterday. They’re pathetic. They’re miserable and are lashing out and making others suffer worse. This is a joke to them. Our lives mean nothing. They’re toys, toys that they play with and then discard when they feel like it. Look how many reactionaries have been caught looking at trans porn. This is all they have. Our lives, our comfort, our rights be damned. Their right to cruelty and being as cruel as possible is all that matters to them. If we want to win, it will not be won through facts and logic. No amount of facts can be laid upon someone to make them see someone they see as subhuman as human. Taking power from them and being unafraid to wield it to better the lives of minorities and stripping reactionaries of their power to hurt minorities is the only thing that will work. We must do this because their cruelty will not stop here with sports. It was never about sports. They’re actively trying to ban trans kids from transitioning. They’ve been doing that for years. Now, they’re slowly starting to try to ban adults from transitioning. This sports ban on a day celebrating women in sports is just the beginning of their cruelty. They can get much crueler. If we don’t speak up, fight back, and take their power now, it will get much worse. The cruelty will be worse. Get involved in political organizations, especially socialist ones in your area. Push to unionize your work. If yours is, encourage those you know who aren’t unionized to get unionized. The only way out of this is for us as the working class to work together and use our power as the majority to get our way. We have the power. If we choose to come together and put an end to this, those in charge could not stop us. At this point, if you care even remotely about stopping fascism, you must get politically involved in some way. Working class solidarity is the only way out.
